About Skegness

Looking for a great holiday then come and visit Skegness. Skegness Seaside resort is famous for many things including being the home to the first Butlins Holiday Resort in 1936. There is so much to see and do and with Skegness being a classic seaside resort they even have donkey rides on the beach, amusement arcades, a fair ground, crazy golf, Skegness Pier, and so much more.

Skegness Seaside resort which affectionately known as Skeg, Skeggy, Costa del Skeg, Skegvegas, or “the Blackpool of the East Coast is located on the East coast of Lincolnshire in the UK. There are great road and rail links into Skegness with the first rail link being built in the mid 1870’s. So, coming for a cheap holiday in Skegness or a day out with the family is so easy to do.

Before the first rail link was built Skegness was a small village with less than 400 people living there. Most of the people who lived in Skegness were farm labourers or fisherman. In 1908, things started to change for Skegness Town when the Great Northern Railway commissioned a poster that advertised excursions to the Lincolnshire resort. The first excursion left London King’s Cross on Good Friday 1908 where it left at 11.30 am. Now, Skegness which has more than 20,000 people living there with its wonderful Skegness Pier and beaches has become a vibrant holiday destination.

Holidays in Skegness have always been popular with people living in Nottingham, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and beyond but now Skegness tourism has been boosted with the continued investment into the resort. There are lots of hotels in Skegness, but with the popularity of Skegness being boosted there is now a new Premier Inn in Skegness which has its own restaurant called the Cookhouse. Other big brand hotels have also shown an interest in the resort.

One of the reasons why Skegness holidays and visiting Skegness for the day have attracted tens of millions of people over the is down to the friendly atmosphere. Another reason is down to the wonderful Skegness Seafront, Natureland Seal Sanctuary, the Skegness Pier, and the great Skegness holiday parks. There is so much for all the family to do from the little ones to the adults. And with Skegness Beach being awarded the Blue Flag, the water is safe for a swim.
