Christ the Redeemer
The culture Icon of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, which has become one of the most famous statues in the world overlooks the city. The statue of Jesus Christ was created by French sculptor Paul Landowski. It was constructed between 1922 and 1931 and is 98ft high with its arms stretching 92ft wide.
The statue which is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone is situated in the Tijuca Forest National park on top of the Corcovado Mountain. You can visit the statue by hiking or a tram ride from Cosme Velho or through an arranged tour.
Sugarloaf Mountain
If you have a head for heights, then you need to visit Sugarloaf Mountain. It is 396 m over the Rio Harbour and provides a perfect magical view over Rio de Janeiro.
To get to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain you will need to take two cable car rides. It is a thrilling experience, and for those that are visiting Brazil with a loved one, it is the perfect destination to propose. With magical views over the city, with the sunset coming down, it is one of the most romantic places to visit in Rio.
Copacabana Beach
Described as one of the best beaches in the world, Copacabana which is also one of the most famous beaches on the planet is the perfect place to relax. If you don’t want to relax then there is a lot going on. In the summertime, the beach gets filled very quickly. The four km beach is lined with great restaurants.
Tijuca Forest
Tijuca Forest is a magical place to visit as a family, couple or as an individual. The tropical rainforest (8,200 acres) which has stunning views is home to some of the most magical plant and animal species you will ever see. It is home to 350 different animal species and Capuchin monkeys are just one of them living in the forest.
The rain forest is also home to waterfalls, and 1,600 plant species. It is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm and is free of charge.
Theatro Municipal
The Theatro Municipal do Rio Janiero (Municipal Theater) is the main opera house located in the city centre. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century and is home to the São Paulo Municipal Symphonic Orchestra, the Coral Lírico (Lyric Choir) and the City Ballet of São Paulo.
The city center-based theatre is a stunning building with marble columns, gilded mirrors, and green onyx staircases. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful theatres in the world.
