Scaffolders strike at Scunthorpe Steelworks for pay rise
Strike action has taken place at Scunthorpe Steelworks over rates of pay. The 60 scaffolders are demanding better pay and conditions
One of the strikers said that he had worked at Scunthorpe Steelworks for more eleven years, and during that time he had only received one pay rise.
The British Steel scaffolders who are members of Unite Union have said they are fed up of not being paid what they are worth.
The strike action started on Monday, but the dispute has been going on for two years, and those involved have said it is about time they got a pay increase.
According to one of the strikers, they he and his workmates feel undervalued and not appreciated.
“All we are asking for is what we are worth. We want a proper pay structure instead of being ignored.”
The strike action will continue to hit the Scunthorpe Steelworks site until all parties come to the table and agree on a real settlement.
