  • Police have said the reports on Facebook of abduction attempts in Skegness are false

Holidaymakers visiting Skegness and those living in the area have been worried in recent days by the reports on Facebook of attempted abductions of young people. However, Lincolnshire Police have said the reports and rumours on Facebook are false.

Police investigated a report made to them with reference to a child, and a spokesman for Lincolnshire Police have said they have spoken to the child in question and said they are safe and well and there had been no attempt to abduct them.

Even though there have been lots of rumours circulating on Facebook about attempted abductions in Skegness and surround areas, Lincolnshire Police have said they have not received any further reports.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said: “We haven’t received any further reports. We take reports like this extremely seriously. There is always a risk that rumours can be exaggerated, taken out of context or completely fabricated on social media. If you have any concerns do not hesitate to contact us.”

This is not the first time that people have started false stories on Facebook about Skegness, and it will not be the last.
