Come and Visit Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire is a seaside resort on the estuary of the Humber in North East Lincolnshire, England. It is a popular holiday resort with a population of around 40,000. In 1801 there were only 284 people living in Cleethorpes. Over the years Cleethorpes which is twinned with Königswinter, Germany has undergone a lot of redevelopment.
In the 1840s, Cleethorpes population started to grow with the arrival of the railway and the expansion of the ports. By 1856 a National School which accommodated 300 children was opened. In 1873 another major development took place when Cleethorpes Pier which measured 1200 feet and built by Head Wrightson at a cost of £8000 was official opened.
In 1956 Cleethorpes made headline news when it was reported that on 22 September 1956 at 3pm a UFO was spotted. It was claimed that the UFO was hovering over the Cleethorpes coast for more than an hour. These claims were backed up by radar at RAF Manby.
Cleethorpes is known for many wonderful things, but one big tourist attraction is the signal box, which is the smallest pub in the world. The Cleethorpes Signal Box is part of the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway, which is another major attraction in the popular Lincolnshire resort.
Before becoming a popular holiday resort, Cleethorpes was a small fishing village. Now, it boasts four miles of beautiful, sandy, award-winning beaches and a pier that is now home to a popular fish and chip restaurant.
If you are visiting Cleethorpes then you have a lot of great holiday accommodation to choose from, which includes Thorpe Park Caravan Site, and lots of great B&Bs. If you fancy staying in a hotel then there is one just across the road from the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway.
