Butlin’s Water Park Closure Upsets Holidaymakers

Families staying at Butlins in Skegness have been left angry and disappointed after finding out Splash Water world has been forced to close.

The recent closure of the Splash Waterworld at Butlins in Skegness Lincolnshire has left many holidaymakers upset and disappointed.

The popular attraction, known for its rides, rafts, and flumes, had to shut down temporarily due to a burst pipe.

Families who had booked holidays at the Skegness resort were offered compensation, but many felt that the amount offered was an insult.

Stacie Pollard, a mother from Kettering in Northamptonshire, had booked a holiday at the Skegness resort with her partner, sister, and four children. However, she was appalled by the compensation she received for the loss of swimming during her £1,829 holiday.

She said she was “completely disgusted” by the compensation she was offered for her booking.

“That’s not going to get you very far to do the extra activities which range from around £7 each to around £15 each so £25 per booking is an insult,” said Ms Pollard.

“The pool is so important for people, especially during the winter months when you can’t spend hours on the fairground because it’s too cold,” she added.

Another holidaymaker, Michael Davies from Oldham near Manchester, was also left disappointed. He, along with his partner, two children, and his sister-in-law’s family, had plans to visit the resort starting from December 23rd.

However, they were unsure if the water park would be open by then. Mr. Davies expressed his frustration at not receiving any communication from Butlins and not being offered any compensation. The lack of updates and conflicting information regarding the reopening of the water park has left him and his family in a state of uncertainty and disappointment.

He said: “We’ve heard multiple stories of what’s happening. We’ve been told it wasn’t going to be available until February next year,” he said.

“It’s been horrendous.”

We have received complaints from holidaymakers all over the country at the lack communication and insulting compensation offer. They include people from London, Lincoln, Morecombe, and even closer to Skegness that includes Grimsby, and Scunthorpe.

A Butlin’s spokesperson said: “We unfortunately encountered a burst pipe which has caused the temporary closure of Splash Waterworld in our Skegness resort.

“We are planning to reopen the pool within the next two weeks, and we have contacted any impacted guests on breaks up to this point with some further information.”

This is not the first time this year that Butlins has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. We covered a story where a family were shocked at finding bed bugs in Skegness Butlins accommodation.
