North Lincolnshire council are going to issue food vouchers to low-income families with children – this includes children receiving free school meals and care leavers.

Families in North Lincolnshire that includes those living in Scunthorpe, Brigg, Haxey, Crowle, Epworth and Barton-upon-Humber, will receive £40 in vouchers for each eligible child in December. They will also receive a further £40 in March.

This action by North Lincolnshire Council is going to help lots of people who are struggling even more thanks to the reduction of Universal Credit.

The voucher scheme is designed to help low-income families cover short term needs like food, essential household items, and energy bills.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The latest Government cash will make a real difference to those most vulnerable in North Lincolnshire this winter. Where there is a genuine need, we will support.

“We know the economy is moving forward fast as we recover from the pandemic, and there are a great many jobs available, however we also understand there are still challenges which people face. This scheme enables people to support themselves and their families at a time when they most need it.”

Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children and families, said: “The wellbeing of children is a priority for us as a council and for parents across the area – the majority of this money will used to support children.

“The summer Government emergency grant scheme helped hundreds of people at a time of real need, so I am pleased we are able to continue to offer support.

“The Government, with the support of our local MPs Holly Mumby-Croft and Andrew Percy, have invested unprecedented amounts of money to support communities. We will ensure this latest grant helps the people most in need.”

North Lincolnshire Council have already been credited for jumping into action to help struggling families during the winter. Many now believe that this should not just be for North Lincolnshire and should be a national campaign by the Government.
