Fans of the show can rejoice as the original cast members, including James Corden and Ruth Jones, are confirmed to be reprising their roles.

According to reports, filming for the highly anticipated episode will commence during the summer months.

Gavin and Stacey last graced our screens in 2019 with a Christmas special that left viewers on a cliffhanger.

The episode saw Nessa, played by Ruth Jones, propose to Smithy, portrayed by James Corden. Fans were screaming out for a new episode to find out if Smithy accepted the proposal.

Now, after a long wait, it has been announced that the show will be back for a Christmas special later this year.

The Christmas special is set to bring together most of the original cast, including Matthew Horne as Gavin and Joanna Page as Stacey.

Fans can also look forward to the return of Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, and Julia Davis, who were integral to the success of the sitcom.

The ensemble cast’s chemistry and comedic timing were key factors in making Gavin and Stacey a fan-favourite.

Amidst the excitement surrounding the show’s return, there has been some speculation regarding the likelihood of a reboot.

Sheridan Smith, who played Rudi, the sister of Smithy, expressed uncertainty about the possibility of more episodes.

In an interview, she mentioned that she was not aware of any plans for future seasons. Smith also commended the creators for leaving the show on a high note, avoiding the trap of overdoing it, which many other shows fall victim to.

Joanna Page, who portrayed Stacey, further tempered expectations by suggesting that the show might not return due to the unresolved cliffhanger from the last episode.

She believes that leaving the story open-ended allows viewers to imagine what could have happened next and provides a satisfying conclusion. However, Page did express her desire for another season, acknowledging that the cast is getting older, and time is of the essence.

Fans’ hopes were reignited when James Corden, who had been hosting The Late Late Show in the US, returned to the UK.

His decision to come back increased the chances of a Christmas special happening. Speculation intensified when Corden was spotted meeting with co-creator Ruth Jones in London’s Soho.

The meeting fuelled rumours of a potential reunion and left fans eagerly anticipating an official announcement.

The BBC, the network responsible for airing Gavin and Stacey, has chosen not to comment on the show’s return.

As fans eagerly await further updates, it is clear that the Christmas special has generated a sense of excitement and anticipation. The enduring popularity of the show, even after five years, speaks to its timeless appeal and the strong connection viewers have with the characters.

One thing is for sure, the return of Gavin and Stacey will be the highest rating show for Christmas 2024.
