Omicron Is A Great Threat To Lincolnshire People

  • Health Secretary Sajid Javid has said that Omicron is a grave threat

As COVID cases continue to rise in Lincolnshire, there is no sign of normality in sight. Health Secretary Sajod Javid has said the Omictron variant is a grave as he discusses restrictions in England.

The Health Secretary told MPs in the Commons: “Omicron is a grave threat. We acted early to slow its spread, strengthening our testing regime and placing 11 countries on the travel red list.

“But despite those swift steps the data over the past few days has shown more cause concern. I’d like to reinforce with the House today, to all honourable members why Omicron represents such a risk to the progress that we’ve all made so far together.”

According to Sajid Javid the number of cases of Omicron is doubling every two days. He also announced there are currently around 200,000 cases a day.

He has warned that the NHS could quickly become overwhelmed with the new variant as it spreads faster than any other COVID variant.

The Health Secretary has said the Government does not have a clear picture of Omicron.

He said: “In England, 10 people are confirmed to have been hospitalised with the Omicron variant. I know some MPs have said that because confirmed hospitalisations from Omicron are low then we don’t need to act.

“But it’s the fact that Omicron hospitalisations are low that means it’s the best time to act and we’ve seen during previous waves the lag between infections and hospitalisation is about two weeks.

“When infections are rising so quickly, we’re likely to see a substantial rise in hospitalisations before any measure is starting to have an impact so there really is no time to lose.”

Health Officials in Lincolnshire are appealing to the General Public to get vaccinated.

For those people struggling to get an appointment through the online booking system, there are open door vaccination centres in Lincolnshire.

Those living in Lincolnshire including Skegness, Boston, Louth, Gainsborough, Grantham, Lincoln and the rest of the Lincolnshire are being encouraged to come forward and get vaccinated and use the open-door vaccination centres.
