The Roaring twenties was a decade of huge social and political change and also one of great contrasts. The end of the First World War brought peace but the effects of the conflict would have repercussions across the whole of Britain – including Wales.Throughout the 1920s, Britain’s economy was already struggling to pay for the effects of the war and when the US stock market crashed in 1929, world trade suffered a further blow leading to poverty and unemployment in the industrial heartlands of Wales and northern England.
