Wilko stores to be turned into Poundland

With news that The Range has bought the Wilko brand name for £5million, and Poundland has bought 71 stores, we have put together which Wilko stores will be saved.

When it was announced the Wilko brand was in trouble it was another shock for the high street. Small retailers who rely on the big stores to bring customers to the high street were worried that another big name lost could damage their business. Now, some of those Wilko stores have been saved and will be turned into Poundland stores.

The owner of Poundland has announced that they will take over the leases of 71 Wilko stores where they will turn them into Poundland stores. This is great news for the high street.

Poundland managing director Barry Williams said: “In the coming weeks we will work quickly with landlords so we can open these stores as Poundland’s with the new ranges that have been pivotal to our recent development.

“And once that process is complete, we will ensure a significant number of the Wilko colleagues will join our Poundland team.”
