Boy Killed on M62 In Hit and Run Incident

The incident occurred between Junction 25 and 26 near Cleckheaton around 9.50 pm. The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene, leaving the child injured on the westbound side of the roadway.

 West Yorkshire police have launched an appeal for information to bring the responsible driver to justice.

According to West Yorkshire police, the incident was reported shortly after 9.30 pm when a car was involved in a crash on the slip road to Hartshead Services. Following this crash, there were reports of two individuals walking along the M62 just before the collision occurred.

Tragically, the 12-year-old boy was attempting to make his way from the central reservation to the hard shoulder when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver responsible for the accident failed to stop at the scene or report the collision to the police.

In response to the hit and run incident, West Yorkshire police have launched an investigation. A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and is currently in custody.

The police are urging the driver who fled the scene to come forward and assist with their enquiries. The family of the young victim is being supported by specialist officers during this incredibly difficult time.

In order to gather more information about the incident, the police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident or have relevant dashcam footage to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who were driving along the M62 between Hartshead Moor and the M606 on the night of the incident, between 9.30 pm and 9.50 pm.

Following the accident, the M62 was closed in both directions overnight to allow for investigations to take place. However, the closure has since been lifted, and traffic has resumed as usual. The authorities have worked diligently to minimize traffic disruption and ensure the safety of motorists traveling along the affected stretch of the M62.
