The victim, whose identity has not been revealed by police, believes she was targeted during a night out in Palma, the capital of this Spanish island.

This shocking incident has once again brought attention to the issue of safety for travellers and the need for heightened vigilance while drinking in bars and clubs in the UK and abroad.

According to the victim’s account, she met a group of holidaymakers in a bar and shared a few beers with them. However, her memory of the night abruptly ends there.

She told police that she woke up the following morning in another hotel, disoriented and alarmed. Disturbingly, she discovered that her underwear was missing. Realizing the gravity of the situation, she immediately alerted the hotel reception, who promptly contacted the police.

A police spokesman said: “The young woman had gone for a drink in Palma on Saturday night and met four holidaymakers.

“She got into a conversation, and they had a couple of beers.

“From that moment on she doesn’t remember anything, only that she woke up the following day at 8.30am in another hotel which wasn’t her one, dressed but without her underwear on.”

“The woman was taken to hospital where a series of tests, including toxicology tests, were performed to obtain as much information as possible,” he added.

The police launched an investigation into the alleged rape. The Special Sex Crime Unit in Majorca took charge of the case and began gathering evidence to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.

Their investigation led them to a 36-year-old French tourist, who was subsequently arrested. The victim’s belongings were found in the room where the alleged attack took place, further strengthening the case against the suspect.

The victim’s brave decision to come forward and the swift action taken by the authorities demonstrate their commitment to ensuring justice is served.

Majorca is a popular holiday destination for young people, but sadly this is not the first incident of drinks being spiked.

In August, an 18-year-old British woman was allegedly gang-raped by six male tourists near Magaluf’s renowned strip. The incident took place at a “party hotel” known as BH Mallorca, highlighting the vulnerability of tourists in seemingly popular and crowded areas.

Police launched an investigation and five French, and one Swiss tourist were arrested, and two more suspects were apprehended in France through European arrest warrants.
