Having a baby is a wonderful thing but according to our own Relationship Advice expert and recent research, romance in a marriage fades after you have had your first baby. According to the research, new parents will go out together just 15 times over the first five years of their child’s life leaving little quality time for romance.
The research found that 57% of parents who were surveyed said that since the arrival of their child, their marriage lacked romance. Seven in ten said they wished they had more nights out together for quality time.
According to the survey, new parents blamed the reasons why they did not go out together for quality time and romance was down to money as well as not wanting to ask people to babysit in case they found it an inconvenience.
Although the new parents said they were glad they had a child, they did admit that they missed spending quality time with their partner and agreed that having a baby does change your life and marriage forever.
ReadyBed carried out the research where they asked 3,000 parents on how their life and marriage had changed since the arrival of their first child and according to a spokesman for ReadyBed said we found that the new parents felt bad about wanting time away from their child to spend quality time with their partner.
Lucy Wynn Jones a spokeswoman for ReadyBed said: “The harsh reality is that although parents would relish more quality time together, in most cases the children come first,” the Daily Mail quoted Lucy Wynn Jones, spokeswoman for ReadyBed, as saying.
“People feel bad for putting their own relationship as a couple above their children – as well as beating themselves up about getting in the babysitters, they also feel bad for wanting time away from the children.
“But it is enormously important to continue a degree of normality and romance after becoming parents,” Wynn Jones added.
