- Skate Manchester has become an important part of Manchester Christmas celebrations, but with the new Tier 3 restrictions but in place by Boris Johnson, Skate Manchester has been cancelled.
The winter Skate Manchester ice rink attraction is one of the most popular festive attractions in the city. It normally takes place in Cathedral Gardens but now with the COVID-19 pandemic and the Tier 3 restrictions the organisers have said it has been postponed until 2021.
Arena Group, the operator of Skate Manchester, has said they have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation in Manchester. After lengthy discussions with Manchester City Council and considering the Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions, the company felt they had no other option than the cancel Skate Manchester until 2021
Rob Derry, managing director of events for Arena Group, said it was with a heavy heart that the company had come to this disappointing decision, but that it was in the best interests of public health.
“In the current climate and with so many uncertainties ahead, it is in everyone’s interest that we do what we can to manage the pandemic and cancel this year’s event,” he said.
“We are extremely saddened by this but look forward to being back, hopefully in Spring next year, with an event to be remembered.
“We will of course be offering full refunds to our valued customers and supporters who have already booked.
“We are sorry for the disappointment that this will cause and thank you to all our stakeholders for your understanding.”
With news of Manchester Tier 3 situation and now with news that Skate Manchester has been cancelled, it is no wonder why the people of Manchester are worried about what bad news is coming next.
