Unhealthy and Obese Children Could Die Before Their Parents

obese children could die before their parents

In the old days the UK was known for its manufacturing but now we are known for having one of the biggest obesity problems in the world, unfortunately obesity in the UK is getting more serious and if it continues at this growth then within five years more than 50% of adults and children will be overweight and obese.

Children in the UK are spending to much time watching television and playing on their Xbox instead of being outside and playing with friends and getting exercise, as well as ignoring healthy eating children are eating to much junk food which is adding to obesity problem, according to health experts this worrying trend in children being overweight and obese can cause them to die younger than expected and even die before their parents.

According to research, 80% of five to 15 year olds are not eating healthy foods, which includes not eating the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

It seems that children are following in their parents footsteps by not eating healthy and if this trend continues then more than 50% of children and adults will be obese within five years and this figure will continue to grow until we put a stop to it.

Instead of eating healthy foods, children are turning to soft drinks, chocolates and sweets, instead of having a treat with chocolates and sweets, it is now normal for children to eat this type of food throughout the day with some children even missing their main meal and replacing it with chocolates and crisps.

A weight loss expert who uses hypnotherapy to help men, women and children to lose weight said: “The government need to take more action against food companies, we need to see less sugar in food and less fat.”

The hypnotherapy expert is not the only one who is calling on the government to take drastic action against food companies and fast food outlets. A number of health experts are calling for a fat tax where food companies who do not reduce the amount of sugar and fat they put into foods should pay a tax to help the NHS fund treatment needed to tackle the obesity problem.

Health experts are also calling on the government to give schools more money to tackle obesity, instead of adding more times for lessons, a number of experts in health believe we should be adding more hours to physical education as well as having at least one hour a week on healthy eating.

According to public records, in the past ten years a total of 20,885 young people were treated in hospital for obesity related conditions which in turn has cost the NHS millions of pounds.

Obesity within adults and children can cause very serious health issues which include:

• High blood pressure.
• Heart disease and Stroke
• Diabetes.
• Cancer.
• Gallbladder disease and gallstones.
• Osteoarthritis.
• Gout.
• Breathing problems, such as sleep apnea (when a person stops breathing for a short episodes during sleep) and asthma.

Obesity is costing the NHS millions each year so it is very strange why the government is being so relaxed on the obesity problem in the UK.

If we are going to tackle the obesity problem then health experts and the government and schools all need to start working together. We need to start allowing our children to have more time at school for exercise and games, we also need to start educating not just our children but also adults on healthy eating, all political parties should be working together to fight obesity.
