Things To Do In New York City For Lots Of Fun

New York City is one of the most famous cities in the world.  And it’s not famous just because it’s in the most powerful country in the world, but because it also has many things to offer.  Here’s our top seven things you can do while exploring the beautiful New York City.

First stop:  Explore Governors Island

On the tip of Manhattan is a hidden treasure by the name of Governors Island.  It’s hidden because it has just recently been opened for public access.  It’s a 172-acre island where you can visit via a ferry shuttle from Friday to Saturday.  Trips are from Manhattan and Brooklyn.  And while on the island, you’ll have endless ways to enjoy yourself.  You can explore the island by riding a bike. You can go and have a picnic with your buddies and friends on the former military base’s parade ground.

Or you can go to the different events — concerts, art exhibits or other music events — that are held on the island from time to time.  You can know their activities by visiting their website.  There are just so many things you can do on the island.  You can even fish in a designated area, though it’s only for leisure as you are not allowed to cook there, and fishes are only allowed to be caught and released. Also, make sure you don’t bring pets, alcohol, controlled substances, weapons or any types of explosive or they’ll get confiscated before you travel.  Of note as well, they have island rules that you should abide to.  Well, that’s the only way they can keep this place clean and unpopulated for many more visitors to see!

Next thing to watch out for:  Street Fairs

Okay, so this next one isn’t an exact place, but something you should watch out for as it can happen anywhere within the five boroughs of New York.  The best street fairs happen in parking spots, as vendors usually take over those areas.  Of course, there are times when it’s legal, when they have events such as Bastille Day or other celebrations, so you’ll most likely find cool bargains at those times.

New York Has So Much To Offer

Have you ever gone to a Shakespeare In The Park? New York has got the best portrayals!

Yes, I’ve heard of this thing in movies, and it’s pretty famous thing.  New York offered the world plays of the Shakespeare masterpieces for over half a century now, and it’s been continuously getting people interested all over the world.  You can either come as a walk-in and wait in line or you can virtually sign up for a ticket.  Take note that you’ll have to wait for an email for that free pair of tickets.  If you don’t get one, then you have to do it again tomorrow.  Well, it’s fun — both waiting for a response and seeing the play itself, don’t you agree?

Spare a day to go shopping and food tripping at Brooklyn Flea Markets

Over there at Fort Greene, Brooklyn is a go-to place for those who want to get good stuff at a good price.  They have almost everything there at the markets held on the Brooklyn Flea, whatever you can think of, from t-shirts, to cupcakes, to herbs, and even postcards.  It’s been a famous spot not only for tourists but also for locals who love to shop!  There’s an extension of this famous market located at Williamsburg in North Brooklyn but that one is only open on Sundays.  If you want to go to a market mainly for food tripping, you can visit their food-only sister in Smorgasburg (still located in North Brooklyn) on Saturdays.  It’s a good place to shop, eat, and just plain enjoy wandering under the sun.

Visit Famous Graves, seriously!

Yes, be realistic.  People have a thing for graves where famous people were buried at, and New York is no exception.  Of course, a lot of famous people come from this place, and that’s why they wanted to stay here even in death.  The best part about this kind of trip is that visiting them is free!

Okay, so there’s Woodlawn Cemetery with a jazz corner.  Yes, a jazz corner.  Because it got a spot where famous jazz legends were buried.  There’s Lionel Hampton, Miles Davis, and Duke Ellington.  Cool, right?

At Saint John’s Cemetery, however, are the most infamous and notorious people of the city — Lucky Luciano, Vito Genovese, and Joe Colombo.  Creepy but awesome.

Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn can be found Leonard Bernstein’s grave, along with Bill the Butcher, and Boss Tweed.  Epic!

central park things to do in New York

Central Park – A Great Place To Vist In New York

Central Park is an urban park in Manhattan, New York City. Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States, with 40 million visitors, and many films filmed there, it has become one of the most famous parks in the world.

And the last but not the least, stay with me on this, New York’s got cool beaches as well.

Yes, you’ve read it right.  It’s surprising that a city like New York still has some beach on it, but in fact it has, not only one, but quite a few.  There goes Rockaway Beach that’s less than an hour away.  Also Coney Island if you’ve heard of it.  The coolest thing is that they’re both accessible via subway where you’ll find yourself being dropped off near the sand itself.  Awesome!  The waves are also cool that you can go for a surfing.  If you don’t have your gear and stuff with you, you can rent surfboards there.  Or if you don’t know how to, guess what, you can take lessons there.

There’s a lot to do in New York City, but we’ve only got time to explore the top seven things.  Nonetheless, the best places you can go to are the places you discover yourself, so why don’t you plan a trip now and go to NY! It’s all worth it.  And did I tell you, you’ll get to see the coolest buildings — yeah, part of the main attraction.
