Navy and Army helicopters fly over Hull for two hours on an unconfirmed mission
The people of Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Hull and surrounding areas were shocked last night (Wednesday September 22) when they spotted two military helicopters flying at low altitude.
The pair of two Wildcat Helicopters, one an Army Air Corps, and the other Royal Navy flew out of Humberside Airport and headed to Hull.
The two military helicopters spent two hours over Hull doing mysterious manoeuvres over the city.
People took to social media as the helicopters continued flying over Hull.
One person said: “Helicopter doing circles over Sutton tonight. Wonder what’s going on?”
Another replied: “The noise is driving me nuts.”
One person asked if they flew from RAF Coningsby which is home to two frontline, combat-ready squadrons and is the training station for Typhoon pilots. However, it was later confirmed they flew from Humberside Airport.
Although there has been no official announcement what the two military helicopters were up to, it is believed they were on a training exercise.
In recent weeks, the British military has been taking part in a huge nation exercise. The NATO exercise which has been codenamed Joint Warrior/Dynamic Mariner has involved ships, submarines, and aircrafts. They have been flying low over Lincolnshire and East Riding.
The military helicopters were first reported on social media when they were spotted near Donna Nook. They then returned to Humberside airport before flying over to Hull at around 8.45pm.
They eventually left Hull shortly before 11pm flying North West across Anlaby and Cottingham and on to Market Weighton and Pocklington.
