  • Travel Agents In Grimsby and Cleethorpes Are Celebrating With A Huge Increase In Half Term Bookings

It looks like the people of Grimsby and Skegness will be packing their bags during October half term and heading abroad.

Travel agents in Grimsby and Skegness have reported a huge increase in half-term bookings thanks to the travel new rules announced by the Government

The Government announced from October 4th, 2021, those who have been double jabbed will no longer require to have a pre-departure test before they leave non-red list countries. Also, the red list of destinations which require people to quarantine has been heavily reduced to single figures.

Some travel agents in Grimsby and Cleethorpes have reported holiday bookings for October have gone through the roof.

Alan French, the chief executive of Thomas Cook, described the streamlining of the traffic light system as “a shot in the arm for the travel industry”.

Thomas Cook chief executive, said they have seen a 200 per cent increase compared to August. He expects that number to keep increasing.

Mr French said: “The news today is a shot in the arm for both the travel industry and families up and down the country who are crying out for some much-needed late summer sun.

“Based on our bookings already today, I would expect this weekend to be the biggest of the year so far as people take advantage of the great deals on offer, the new easier rules on testing and the simplified system for international travel.”

TUI have also seen a big increase in the number of people booking holidays for October half term since the Government made the announcement.

Both TUI and Thomas Cook expect the increase to continue this week with more families flying abroad now the restrictions have been removed.

Although the announcement by the Government is great news for families wishing to go abroad, it could have a serious impact on Cleethorpes staycation holidays.

Thanks to the restrictions of going abroad, staycations in Cleethorpes and around the UK has seen a boom in bookings. Now the gates are open to holiday abroad, the likes of Thorpe Park in Cleethorpes and hotels in the resort could see the numbers dwindle.
