Last week Cadet Sergeant Polly Nickless of 1094 City of Ely Squadron Air Training Corps attended Royal Air Force College Cranwell to participate in the prestigious Air Cadet Leadership Course (ACLC).
This week-long residential course is one of the most challenging and demanding courses that Air Cadets from the ATC and Combined Cadet Force can apply for.
Competition for this much sought-after course means that only the very best applicants get through selection. Applicants have to be under 17 and cannot be above the rank of Sergeant.
A week of intensive, constantly assessed Leadership tasks and training culminate in field exercises before those who are assessed to have met the ACLC standard enjoy passing out parade where they are presented with their Gold Leadership Badges.
To achieve a pass or a credit on ACLC is in itself a tremendous accomplishment. To achieve a “Merit” is not an everyday Occurrence and hardly any ACLC graduates attain the much coveted “Distinction”.
Sergeant Nickless enjoyed her week at Cranwell working hard alongside her fellow cadets from all across the country learning not just the art of Leadership and followship but learning about herself and refining her own Leadership style.
Sergeant Nickless was pleased to pass the course and achieve a “Higher Merit” grading only narrowly missing out on a Distinction but being personally commended by the course directing staff.
Well done Polly, the Gold Leadership badge says so much about each holder’s determination and resilience and what we already know about you sets you apart as a role model for our cadets and NCOs alike.
