Popular Cleethorpes Soul Singer Dies Aged 62

  • Soul Singer David Lee Andrews who performed with the Drifters has sadly died

 

Some sad news in today. Popular Cleethorpes Soul Singer David Lee Andrews has sadly died at the young age of 62.

The singer who was due to perform at Grimsby’s Central Hall died at his family home.

The entertainment world who has been shocked by his death have been leaving tributes of a man who brought the stage alive each time he performed.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Rachel, and their three children Taleah, 13, Karina, 15 and Toryan, 17.

David Lee Andrews met his wife, Rachel more than 20 years ago while he was performing on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria. They married in 2002.

Rachel who said she was devasted by her husband’s death attended his last concert earlier this month at Grimsby Auditorium when he performed with The Drifters.

She said: “Singing and performing came naturally to him. He was due to be in the concert at Central Hall and it will be going ahead in tribute to him.”

David Lee Andrews who was originally from Florida, performed regulary around Northern Lincolnshire, and as well as being a talented singer, he was a successful song writer.

Tributes have also been flooding in from the entertainment world, including a posting on the Official Drifters page.

“Dave would be sorely missed for his “amazing voice and talent, humour and larger than life character.”

“We are honoured to have shared the stage with you our friend,” their tribute said.

Danny Fletcher, professional entertainer and long-time friend said: “So shocked to hear of the passing of a true gentleman and great singer. RIP old friend.”

Paul Cantara, professional entertainer, said: “So sad to lose such a talented man and friend such as David.

He has helped and influenced so many of us in the music industry. I think many of us are still in shock at how quick this has happened. My heart and thoughts go out to his family. Devastating news.”

Paul Thorpe, professional entertainer, posted: “He inspired me so much with his unique style and arrangements of music, which I copied to a degree. We were very good friends and loved each other like brothers. I am gonna miss you David, but at least I have your music to listen to. God bless my friend.”

A service for the celebration of the life of David will be held at Grimsby Crematorium from 1.30pm on Tuesday, November 9 with mourners asked to wear black and gold in his honour.

A collection will be held for Grimsby Food Kitchen, in lieu of flowers, at his family’s request.
