Major League Baseball’s oldest rookie, Jim “The Rookie” Morris, publishes memoir that picks up from critically acclaimed Disney film

Jim “The Rookie” Morris

In September 1999, Jim Morris became Major League Baseball’s oldest rookie when making his debut at the ripe old age of 35 for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Morris’s story was the catalyst to Disney’s 2002 critically acclaimed, box-office hit The Rookie starring Dennis Quaid.

Now, 20 years after Morris retired from MLB, the former big-league pitcher will release his all-new book Dream Makers: Surround Yourself with the Best to Be Your Best on Tuesday, June 23. The inspiring memoir, co-written by Mark Stuertz with a glowing foreword written by Quaid, is available in both paperback and eBook format.

The Rookie, known as the feel-good movie of second chances, took viewers into part of the life, career and experiences of Morris. Now, Dream Makers takes readers even further. The new book details his abusive childhood, setbacks and injuries the former pitcher endured before achieving his dream of being a big-league hurler, and Morris’ years of chronic illness, innumerable surgeries, opioid addiction and recovery.

Morris’s thought-provoking memoir explores his life, the types of people who tried to keep him down and the valued network of friends, family and colleagues who pushed him to be his best; his dream makers. Dream Makers is a book about the life-changing power of surrounding oneself with the best influences possible to achieve the unthinkable.

The new book has gained worldwide exposure, with some book reviewers calling Dream Makers the book of 2020.

“I can’t believe it’s taken 20yrs to finish writing this book. I guess I had to be patient and go through seasons in my life for the perfect ending to be completed,” said Jim Morris.
