Thomson Cabin Crew Injured During Emergency Landing

A fire broke out onboard a Thomson flight today, forcing the aircraft travelling from Manchester to Girona in Spain to make an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport.

According to reports the fire broke out in the onboard oven and resulted in three cabin crew being treated for smoke inhalation. None of the 201 passengers were affected.

Terrified passengers were quickly escorted from the plane and taken to a gateroom while the airport fire service boarded the aircraft.

A spokeswoman for Gatwick airport said: “The flight which was travelling from Manchester Airport to Girona was diverted because of smoke in the cabin.

“Three of the cabin crew are being treated by medics. The 201 passengers have all been offloaded, and they are in a gateroom waiting for another plane to take them to Girona.”

Thomson released a statement which said: “We would like to apologise to customers travelling to Girona, Spain from Manchester on-board TOM2616 as the flight was diverted to London Gatwick as a precautionary measure.

“The flight was met by emergency services in line with standard procedures and to investigate the cause of smoke in the cabin.

“The aircraft has been checked and is safe to continue to its scheduled journey this morning.

“All customers on-board are also safe, and new crew members are arriving imminently to cover the flight as three of the original team are being checked over by medics as a precaution.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding during this time and would like to take this opportunity to reassure everyone that the safety of our customers and crew is of paramount importance.”
