Schoolboy missing in sea off the coast of France

Parents are shocked and worried after their child who has not been named went missing on the first day of his family holiday in the sea off the cost of France.

The boy of 16, was out swimming close to the town of Messanges, in the Landes department, south of Bordeaux, and was seen desperately trying to get back to the beach after getting into difficulty while swimming with his father.

Reports have suggested that they were swimming 150 metres off the beach which is not supervised by life guards, when the 16 year old lad got into difficulty.

Searches are still continuing but sources have said it is unlikely to find the 16 year old while a spokesman for the coastguards have said that stretch of beach is extremely dangerous because of the fast currents and strong winds.
