Hundreds Of Jobs To Go With Thomas Cook High Street Stores Set To Close

Staff at Thomas Cook have been given the worst Christmas present with news their jobs are under threat. The popular High Street travel agent has today announced they plan to close fifty stores which will affect hundreds of jobs.

The travel agent has reviewed their business operation and decided to close their underperforming shops. The shops will close between now and March.

More than 400 Thomas Cook employees have been spoken to about the planned closure of the shops with Thomas Cook saying they hope to redeploy some of those people who have been affected.

According to Thomas Cook, 47% of their holidays are booked in store with online sales growing by 27%.

The High-Street travel agent has already cut their retail network by 45% in the past five years, which means Thomas Cook will have fewer shops on the High Street than their rivals TUI.

Kathryn Darbandi, Thomas Cook UK’s director of retail and customer experience, said: “We continually review our network of stores… and it is clear that to succeed we have to operate as a truly omni-channel business.”

Thomas Cook who reported their UK earnings have dropped by 40% hope the re-structure will make their company more competitive.
