British surgeons want women in the UK to be aware of the risks that can be involved by going abroad for gastric band surgery as a way of cutting the cost. The Independenat.co.uk have said that surgeon abroad may not be qualified or experienced in performing surgery for weight loss which could put the patient in danger including serious complications.
A surgical registrar from the Bath's Royal United Hospital, Simon Monkhouse, also revealed: "Post-operative care for operations performed abroad is often patchy or non-existent, which increases the risk of complications." What's more, some of the weight loss surgeries being promoted overseas aren't even offered in the UK; implying they may not be 100 per cent safe.
