As part of the storyline, the regulars will be left worried that the pub could be knocked down or could be turned into a wine bar.
A show insider told the Daily Star newspaper: "The Rovers has been a huge part of the street for years but times change.
"Steve needs to get his hands on some money, and quick. The pub could end up in anyone's hands."
Steve McDonald offers the pub to Stella which does not go down to well with the fans of Coronation Street as the character has never been a favourite of the fans.
Steve tells Stella: "Look, if you want it then you've got first refusal. Don't let the grass grow, though, because I needed to sell it yesterday."
Fans are hoping that the producers of the show have second thoughts but according to insiders, next year Steve McDonald will no longer be in charge of the Rovers Return
