Tenerife Super Train To Go Ahead

It has been a long time coming with many objections but now the latest North of Tenerife Territorial plan has got the go ahead.

The train plan has received 904 objections with a large number of them coming from action groups who object to the plan even though business leaders feel it will be great for the local economy.

The revised train plan has now been given initial approval during the final plenary session of the Tenerife Cabildo, held late last month, which has not gone down to well with the groups who object to the plan.

Cabildo councillor for the economy, Carlos Alonso, has said there have been no substantial changes but did say that the new environmental report provides important details of analysis and compensation measures for those affected by the train plan.

‘Action Groups Angry Over Tenerife Train Plan’

According to Carlos Alonso, the final approval is expected to be in the second half of next year and then the work will be put out to tender. However, action groups still feel they have a final chance to put a stop to the plan and are planning to continue to protest against it.

According to the proposal, there will be seven stops along the railway line which has a length of 37.3 k, 18.4 k of which are tunnels and the trains will run every 15 minutes at rush hour and will carry around 10,047,069 passengers each year.
