Jet2 Staff Keep Jobs After Security Blunder

Three staff that was suspended after an 11-year-old boy managed to board a plane to Italy on his own without a ticket and passport has been told they would keep their jobs.

Liam Corcoran hit the headlines when he managed to evade five security checks at Manchester Airport in July; the 11-year-old boy managed to board a Jet2.com flight to Rome even though he was on his own and did not have a passport or a boarding card.

Shockingly no member of staff on board the Jet2.com flight noticed the error; it was only highlighted when passengers started to become suspicious that a young lad was travelling on his own.

Normally on board a plane the cabin crew will do a head count although this is not a legal requirement, but on this occasion the staff on board the Jet2.com plane did not do the head count which if done would have uncovered an extra passenger.

After the incident, Jet2.com suspended three members of staff while they launched an inquiry, but now the inquiry has been completed, the airline has confirmed that the three members of staff have not lost their jobs and have returned to their normal posts.

A spokesman told The Manchester Evening News. “Following a full and thorough investigation, revised procedures have been implemented. Head counts are now in place across each of our flights from all airports, and additional staff training has been carried out across the business.

“We continue to liaise closely with Manchester Airport regarding security processes.”
