How To Have A Healthy Pregnancy

Nowadays the news media seems chock-full of images of celebrities in beautiful maternity outfits. In photos released to the public these fun and fearless women sport golden glows and fabulous hair. Their perfectly manicured nails and fit bumps making it seem easy to have the sort of pregnancy that every mum-to-be dreams of.

 

Famous personalities seem to look amazing even when they’ve just rolled out of bed, in designer maternity pyjamas and name brand slippers, or gorgeous flowing robes as they look out over the beach from their mansion’s balcony.

It’s a far cry from pregnancy for normal women, which can be fraught with unfortunate results of hormonal imbalances such as mood swings, spotty skin, dramatic weight gain, and sleepless nights.

 

In the real world, pregnant mums often struggle to get out of bed in the morning and make it through the day. However, increasing numbers of women are taking a cue from health gurus and fitness experts around the world. Making the effort to have a fabulous pregnancy is very much ‘en vogue’, and for good reason- staying healthy makes the process easier and helps achieve a beautiful look during this special time of life.

Although we may not all have personal trainers and chefs to create healthy meals, there are many ways that women can enhance their lives at this most crucial moment. A fit and fabulous pregnancy can be achieved simply and holistically, without any drastic lifestyle changes.

 

Eat Well

 

 

  • While in the midst of a hectic schedule and busy life in general, it can be easy to grab whatever’s available and wolf it down. However, a growing baby and stressed mum-to-be needs proper nourishment, so there’s never been a better time to pay more attention to your diet.

 

Start the day off with a protein-rich breakfast. Pack your lunch instead of ordering takeaway, and be sure to include whole grains, plenty of fruit and veg and calcium-rich foods like yogurt and cheese. Even if you’re not much of a cook, learn to create simple but balanced meals at home.

  • Practise Light Exercise

 

  • Exercising will not only help to curb excessive weight gain, it will actually provide you with more energy to face the day. You don’t have to run out and join a gym, although a great ante-natal or aqua aerobics class can be wonderful.

 

Staying fit during pregnancy can be achieved through simple actions like taking an invigorating morning walk each day. Practise stretching in the evenings before bed, and try to include an evening stroll after dinner when possible. The idea is to set aside specific time out of your day to keep your body moving!

 

Sweet Indulgences

 

  • Part of having a beautiful pregnancy is focusing on your health and wellbeing, and not being afraid to indulge yourself when the time is right.

 

Allow yourself to give in to cravings, schedule a spa treatment (don’t even think about this, just do it!), and make sure you have extra time to sleep in when possible.

 

You can also do as celebrities do, just on a smaller scale. Buy some designer maternity pyjamas for cosying up in the evenings, or a beautiful floaty maternity dress to wear during the day.

Focus on Relationships

 

One thing that has been proven to help foster a healthy pregnancy is having positive, supportive people around you. Pay special attention to your relationship with your partner (date night, anyone?) and be sure to make time for friends and relatives.

 

Remember that those who care about you would probably love to share in your joy and be a part of your pregnancy experience, so don’t leave them out in the cold.
