The Pippa Effect: Honeymoons in Scotland and the wider UK set to soar

Honeymoons look set to experience ‘The Pippa Effect’, as online research* released today reveals half of Brits have or would consider going on honeymoon in the UK instead of the world’s leading luxury destinations.

As Pippa Middleton walked down the aisle this weekend, reports have circulated that she intends to celebrate as a newlywed in the Scottish Highlands. With the Pippa Effect proven to see Miss Middleton’s favourite items sell out nationwide, the research by LateRooms.com hints at a major new travel trend on the way.

One thing that unites nearly three quarters (73 per cent) of Brits is a love affair with the stunning countryside in England, Scotland and Wales – making home soil the perfect place for a honeymoon. Nearly one in 10 even highlighted the Great British weather as a reason FOR staying on home turf for a holiday.

According to the research the top 10 destinations from the list provided for a UK honeymoon come rain or shine are:

  1. Lake District, location for Pippa and James’ engagement (50%)
  2. Cornwall (47%)
  3. Scottish Highlands, rumoured location of the honeymoon (45%)
  4. The Cotswolds (34%)
  5. Edinburgh (24%)
  6. York (19%)
  7. London (15%)
  8. Stratford-upon-Avon (13%)
  9. Bristol (4%)
  10. Cardiff (4%)

Katherine Scott at LateRooms.com, said: “We all know that the UK is home to some of the world’s most beautiful cities and breath-taking scenery so it is great that couples including Pippa Middleton and James Matthews are choosing to celebrate one of the happiest times of their life soaking up all that the British Isles has to offer. Whether it’s an action-packed week sightseeing around some of the country’s most historic towns and cities or an escape to the country as chosen by Pippa, the UK has plenty to offer loved-up Brits, not to mention with a unique coastline spanning from Margate to John o’ Groats there’s no need to blow the budget on long haul destinations like the Maldives when you’ve got so much to see closer to home.”
