Dylan Storey is making good progress towards his dream of being able to walk independently – having avoided the need for hip surgery.The six-year-old, from Bottesford, is continuing to receive physiotherapy treatment after undergoing a selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) operation to ease the symptoms of his cerebral palsy last year.The operation in America, which Scunthorpe Telegraph readers helped to raise £50,000 to pay for, was followed up by a return trip across the Atlantic Ocean for a one-year review.Fi Storey, Dylan's mum, said she was delighted with how far he had come since the surgery, in February last year.She said:... A grieving man whose brother died of cancer said he is distraught after a memorial statue given to the family was stolen.David Houghton, 34, died in Lindsey Lodge Hospice on March 24 after a battle with cancer.David was diagnosed with kidney cancer in July 2011.He then started a course of chemotherapy at Scunthorpe General but was told in January the cancer had spread and there was nothing more that could be done.His brother Wayne Houghton, of Broughton, said: "When we heard the news it was a big shock."We could not believe there was not a cure and it... Around 3,000 car-owning council workers face having their mileage payments cut.The workers would see their payments slashed by 7p a mile – from 52p to 45p – under council plans to save £650,000 a year.North Lincolnshire Council officials insist the authority has to cut the £1.9 million a year bill in mileage allowances to help make savings of more than £25 million by 2014-15.But workers are threatening industrial action unless the council backs down.The 2,000-strong branch of the Unison trade union has already unanimously rejected the proposals and put an in dispute procedure into play.The Scunthorpe Telegraph understands... A horse and her unborn foal have died after being subjected to a vicious attack.The owners of the 19-year-old chestnut mare found her surrounded by blood at a field in Clay Lane, Gainsborough.At the time it was thought she was starting to foal and a vet was called.After being examined by the vet it was found the mare had been attacked and had lost a lot of blood.The mare and her foal both died.Police are now appealing for witnesses and the owners of the horse are offering a £2,500 reward to anyone with information leading to an... A community association has secured more than £50,000 to fight debt and housing issues.The Crosby Community Association (CCA), based on Frodingham Road, Scunthorpe has secured a £54,313 grant from the Advice Service Fund.This money has enabled funding for two staff members at the association – one who is remaining in her role and another who has returned to his original position.The funding will pay for the employment of a full time Money Advice and Debt Counsellor and a Welfare and Housing Advisor until March 2013.After this, they will apply for further funding to continue their roles....
