| Nurse begins claim for unfair dismissal |
|
A psychiatric nurse who was sacked after speaking out about spending cuts will today claim unfair dismissal when she takes her case to an employment tribunal.
Karen Reissmann, 49, was dismissed by Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust last year and accused of gross misconduct. Her dismissal led to a strike by health workers, and her claim is being supported by her trade union, Unison. Her supporters are expected to stage a demonstration of solidarity before the start of the tribunal hearing in Manchester today. Sheila Foley, the chief executive who sacked Ms Reissmann, resigned last month but the union said it expects her to attend the tribunal hearing, which is set to be held for five days. |
