| Local Talent The Alfonz And The Shebeats Open At The 2008 Sugarhill Festival |
|
Sugarhill '08 is to open its doors for an extra night (Friday 5 September) for the very first time and it won't cost VIP or weekend ticket holders a penny more! The festival will now take place between Friday 5 and Sunday 7 September on Warren Farm near Liddington, just outside Swindon and minutes from M4 J15. The Friday night programme includes a fantastic double bill of local talent featuring The Alfonz and The Shebeats. Most of the musical line up is now in place for the rest of the weekend and is looking pretty impressive, with three stages (Main, New Independents and Swindon Shuffle), along with a new late night cabaret programme, family activities and much more, yet adult weekend tickets (which include free camping), cost just £50 and VIP tickets £70. Festival-goers won't go hungry or thirsty either as there will be a delicious selection of food and drink available in the Festival Arena to keep them going from breakfast until bedtime, although the main feature for the weekend is definitely a special selection of over 20 traditional and local real ales and ciders in the festival bar. On the main stage, Saturday night features some of the hottest indie acts around, including Young Knives, The Dykeenies, Johnny Foreigner, Operahouse and Esser. While on Sunday, the festival kicks off its shoes to enjoy what promise to be some mesmeric performances from artists including singer-songwriters Tom Baxter, Beth Rowley and Pete Molinari, jazz chanteuse Imelda May and Norway's punk pop sensation Ida Maria. Organisers have scoured the country to find the best in up and coming talent to appear on the New Independents Stage. And although most will not be familiar household names yet, they probably soon will be. Highlights include Brighton's Gloria Cycles, whose latest single shot straight into the Indie Top 30 last week and The Flies, whose moody mysterious performances provide the perfect vehicle for Sean Cook to step out from the shadow of Spiritualised. Other confirmed artists include: The Kits, Merchandise, Triphazard, Illegitimate Sons of the King, ist, Shuffle, Beaten by Them and Let's Tea Party. Sugarhill is committed to the development of the local music scene in Swindon and Wiltshire, hence the collaboration, for the second year running with the Swindon Shuffle. But the festival is convinced many of the Shuffle Stage artists could be playing on much bigger stages in the future. So far, their number includes: BeatBullyz, Rats Ruined My Brain, Jeff Like Usual, 2 Sick Monkeys, Trip Dress, Talk in Code, Hip Route, Attica Sessions, Matthew Killford and Buswell - but there are many more to come. Sugarhill is the brainchild of local arable farmer, Dennis Ford, a keen music fan and a musician himself. He commented: "I try to get to as many gigs as my farming schedule will allow, but it's never enough. Living on a farm, gives me enormous potential to organise something really special right on my own doorstep that could be enjoyed by a wide range of people and I'm very excited by this year's programme." So don't miss what will surely be the last opportunity to enjoy the last outdoor music party of the season before the chill of autumn sets in.
