Alfred Hitchcock's The Pleasure Garden
Legendary director Alfred Hitchcock is best known for his high profile thrillers, horrors and espionage chillers and use of icy, beautiful, blonde Hollywood movie stars. But before Hollywood, his huge body of work in England is as much masterpieces of their own right as his better known oeuvres from Hollywood. NETWORK is releasing Alfred Hitchcock’s THE PLEASURE GARDEN (PG) on DVD on 18th August 2008, RRP £5.99.

Surprisingly sure of hands, a 25 year-old Hitchcock directed THE PLEASURE GARDEN (PG). This is his directorial debut with his signature edgy style already creeping into the style of the film. This is the story of much tangled storylines between a small group of characters: the two dancers, Patsy and Jill, working at the eponymous theatre The Pleasure Garden, Jill’s fiancé Hugh, Patsy’s admirer and then husband Mr. Levet. Newcomer Jill demonstrates surprising confidence and very quickly establishes herself as the headliner at the theatre. Her fiancé Hugh and his friend Mr. Levet are off to the East to seek their fortune. Prior to their departure, a romance blooms between Patsy and Mr. Levet, yet there are layers to this man of which Patsy is not aware until the wedding papers are signed.
