A World Class Musician In Concert For The Wolverhampton India Summer
The BBC Planet Award winner of 2007 for world music Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya from Kolkata, cultural capital of India will give a slide guitar recital for Surdhwani on Saturday 12 July 2008 at the Arena Theatre, Wulfruna Street, Wolverhampton WV1 1SE.

This will be Debashish’s first visit to Wolverhampton and it will be the only concert by him in the Midlands. Debashish has done some pioneering work on the western instrument to adapt it for Indian classical music. He is unquestionably one of the brightest stars of the Indian classical music and is regarded as a world class musician. He has toured and recorded with world renowned musician John McLaughlin’s group ‘Shakti’. He has travelled across the globe and learned from some of the best gurus such as Dr Ali Akbar Khan, Pandit Brij Bhushan Kabra and others. His younger brother Subhasis Bhattacharya will accompany him on tabla. Subhasis is also an extremely talented percussionist who is currently under the tutelage of internationally renowned tabla maestro, Pandit Anindo Chattopadhyay of Kolkata.
